Celebrating Philanthropic Brands

At the Fruitful Yield, we love to highlight and support ethical brands who are passionate about creating equal opportunities and want to help those in need. We wanted to share the great work being accomplished by these philanthropic brands that go above and beyond to ensure they are giving back to communities and the planet!

Philanthropic Brand Hand in Hand

Hand in Hand

Hand in Hand offers simple, clean soap and body options, like their Poppy Hand Soap or Island Mimosa Body Lotion. Founded in 2011, this soap and beauty company has taken part in their Buy One, Give Back program for over ten years. That means with every purchase, they donate soap and clean water to children in need. To date, they have donated over 17.3 million bars of soap and 18 million gallons of water! Additionally, they are certified B-Corp, which means they meet higher standards of social and environmental performance.

Hand in Hand is also one of the first brands to use infinitely recyclable aluminum in their packaging! Furthermore, they partner with Eco Soap Bank, a “humanitarian and environmental non-profit organization working to save, sanitize, and supply leftover soap from manufacturers for the developing world.” This is mostly done through obtaining soap from hotels that would normally be thrown into landfills and instead recycle and distribute it to those in need in developing countries. Philanthropic Brand Alaffia

Alaffia

Alaffia is a luxurious skin and haircare company using fair trade ingredients handcrafted by their women-led co-ops in West Africa. Sales of Alaffia products fund their empowerment projects which include education-based products, maternal health, providing eyeglasses, and environmental sustainability. As of this year, they have funded 5,597 births and have donated 10,817 bicycles and 37,521 school supplies. Additionally, Alaffia has built 16 schools, planted 99,964 trees, and donated 30,852 eyeglasses. As they continue to grow so does their outreach!

Furthermore, Alaffia is a For Life certified operation by ECOCERT through their demonstration of corporate responsibility. Their ingredients center around shea butter, coconut oil, and authentic African black soap. Some of our favorites are the Face Cleanser with Papaya & Neem and Peppermint African Black Soap. They also offer kid-friendly shea bubble baths in lemon lavender or coconut strawberry! Check out their website for more information on their outreach.

Philanthropic Brand Shea Moisture

Shea Moisture

Shea Moisture’s company history is rooted in the work of Sofi Tucker, a widowed mother a four who sold shea butter, African black soap, and homemade hair and skin products. They keep that same spirit alive through their handcrafted and unrefined raw shea butter products like Moisturizing Hair Milk and Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo. All products are cruelty-free and made with fair trade shea butter. Plus, the company is certified B-Corp!

Shea Moisture’s business model “directly reinvests in economic opportunities for underserved entrepreneurs”. They annually commit one million dollars to support small, Black-owned businesses. Also, they partner with Girls With Impact to provide 1,500 scholarships to Black, under-resourced women between the ages of 14-24 in order to educate young women on the fundamentals of business.
